Actors of formidable and variable talent wink gamely through Tim Burton's charming and outlandish clockwork ghost story. The special effects are fancifully fantastic, Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography is chalk dust on velvet, and Rick Heinrichs' production design is worthy of Baron Munchausen. A tasty glazed ham of a film.
